Marina Faust
For Basel Social Club 2025, GIANNI MANHATTAN proposes a focused curatorial solo presentation consisting of two bodies of work by Marina Faust.
Marina Faust’s multi-faceted artistic practice utilises documentary photography, filmmaking, sculpture and collage. For almost twenty years (1990 - 2009) Faust worked as a reportage photographer for Martin Margiela and this experience informs her present day artistic practice where she delineates from a classical understanding of photographic portraiture to enter questions about identity, the self, subjectivity and alienation.
For Basel Social Club, we present previously unseen black and white photographic prints from the 1970s and 1990s and pair them with a large-scale reconstructed, prosthetic chandelier, suspended within a metal framework, taken from her most recent sculptural series, ambulant.
