For Frieze Focus 2021, Sebastian Jefford presents an installation of new works that conflates different hierarchies of time; deep-time, now-time, space-time, me-time, putting-off-the-washing-up-time and questions how our understanding of history is internalised, shaped and misunderstood by our innate mode of linear thinking. 
   Jefford’s presentation will occupy the perimeter of the booth with a wall-length, tiled and pitched roof littered with empty pie crusts, three polyurethane disc works depicting different faces of the Sun each approximately 180cm in diameter.
   Sebastian Jefford’s practice encompasses sculpture, video and writing. He utilises sourced imagery for his wall-based pieces that sit somewhere between painting, sculpture, relief and garment. At first appearing to be made of a dense and weathered clay-like material, on closer inspection the works reveal themselves to be hand-painted panels of soft foam, held together by plastic snap fasteners. His objects embrace notions of reenactment and reconstruction and depict a world burdened by natural, man-made and psychological disaster. 
   These material contradictions allude to the same contradictions of our technological age: seemingly endless streams of immaterial images and information, hosted by fossil fuelled server farms and transmitted by devices built from minerals mined in the earth. This work considers the state of the image, as lumpen, dirty and amorphous — a polluter.
